About MEA

Marino Engineering Associates, Inc. specializes in engineering research, training, forensic investigations and design in geotechnical and pavement engineering. Founded in 1980, by Dr. Gennaro G. Marino, P.E., the company became Marino Engineering Associates, Inc. (MEA) in 1997. Our highly qualified scientific and technical staff work together seamlessly to produce superior, on-time results for each client regardless of the project size.

MEA's focus is to provide the highest standard of service and response to complex, challenging and unique projects.

Located in the Midwest, MEA serves projects throughout the continental United States. Clients include government, public agencies, private business, and insurance companies. Past projects include interesting challenges covering many highly technical areas including: mine subsidence, complex foundation conditions, underground structures, specialized earthquake damage and evaluation training, damage investigations of pavement and structures, subsurface investigations, laboratory testing, and construction difficulties.

Just minutes from the heart of the University of Illinois Engineering campus, Marino Engineering Associates utilizes the wealth of research resources and personnel available in this advanced technological environment. In addition, MEA maintains strong business relationships with professionals in related fields. Marino Engineering Associates, Inc. is uniquely positioned to address the diverse geotechnical and pavement engineering projects present in today's environment.

Leadership

Gennaro G. Marino, Ph.D., P.E., is the President and principal engineer of MEA. He has been practicing geotechnical engineering since 1973 starting as a staff engineer graduating to a project engineer and now as an expert consultant on more difficult geotechnical engineering related projects. In addition, Dr. Marino has given expert testimony on numerous occasions within his range of engineering experience. As an educator Dr. Marino has written about and delivered technical training programs. Also during the course of his career he has authored approximately 82 articles and research publications on advanced engineering projects. He also has published a textbook: Earthquake Damage: Inspection, Evaluation and Repair. Dr. Marino currently holds a Professional Engineering License in 15 states in addition to a national accreditation.

Among the many honors he has received, he is a long standing member of the Society of Mining Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers, as well as a member of the American Society of Mining for Reclamation (ASMR). For many years Dr. Marino was the Chairman of the Geotechnical Engineering Division of the ASMR. The ASMR Geotechnical Division addresses the geotechnical topics related to disturbed lands. Dr. Marino is also a member of the ASTM Soil and Rock Committee and the Geotechnical Advisory Committee for the Illinois Mine Subsidence Insurance Fund.

Over the past 35 years Dr. Marino has performed and supervised subsurface investigations as well as field and laboratory testing in soils and rocks as a practicing engineer and researcher. As a geotechnical and forensic engineer, Dr. Marino has worked on a variety of soil engineering projects involving earthwork including site development and foundation investigations, slope stability, retaining wall systems, soil stabilization and foundation repair, performance of pavements and subgrade conditions, soil compaction and its associated properties, seepage and impoundment failures, subsidence/settlement damage, ground movement, soil-structure interaction, as well as other soil mechanics and foundation problems. Forensic and engineering projects in rock include: stability and support of underground workings in salt, coal and hard rock; grouting; rock excavation behavior and difficulty; subsidence engineering; and seepage in rock.
